Mohave Schools Program Underway

By: Mohave Electric Cooperative

Mohave Electric Cooperative’s enhanced photovoltaic (PV) for Schools Program is underway. Mohave’s 2010 Renewable Energy Standard Tariff (REST) Plan provides funding for solar energy projects at ten schools within the service territory. Each of the ten schools will receive $50,000 to use for solar panels at no upfront cost or no repayment obligation.
Mohave also applied for an ARRA grant on behalf of the schools which adds an additional $10,000 to each project, for a total of $60,000 per school.
“Our PV for Schools Program demonstrates Mohave’s commitment to establish partnerships within our community that help members and taxpayers by reducing the cost of education,” said J. Tyler Carlson, Mohave’s CEO.
Ten schools will begin generating a portion of their energy with the solar panels by the end of 2010. Mohave’s 2011 REST Plan will extend the program with $500,000 in funding for ten more schools next year.
